My Beetle is finally painted!!!

Im terribly sorry i have not updated anything on my blog but i have been really busy with work and blah blah blah...... but i was also preoccupied with updates on My 65 VW Beetle ..... for the past 3 months it was slowly being prep'ed for paint.... and today it as finally finished.......

... yes, i still have been blogging... its just that i have been blogging on my 65vwbeetle blog .... been slowly dismantling my vw engine... I also met up with a few members of the BUGgers club as we had our 4th gathering this time held in Klang... managed to get alot of info on the vw engine.... and of cos lots of photos.

We also when for Cat's birthday party.... that was fun... it had a retro rock theme.... dont ask me what that means... i didnt know what to wear... so i ripped the sleeves off an old shirt and slapped on some jeans...

Ofcos.... a party isnt complete without a few rounds of TABOO..... we even had a few rounds of charades..... My team lost terribly in Taboo but we blew away the other team with Charades...

ANyway i just got back from Tioman last Sunday.... more on that in my next post...

Gold Coast, Bagan Lalang?

Did you know that Bagan Lalang is now called Goldcoast????... sheesh!!! how original wan......

Anyway a bunch of us vw beetle owners and a few other classic car owners took a drive to Bagan Lalang last Sunday.... oh wait do you guys even know where Bagan Lalang is? :) Well, if you dont,.. it is a coastal area just after Sepang Town.... Dont know where Sepang is? ... You know F1 Sepang Circuit right?...... aaaaaa thats right! its some what a whiles way from there...

It was such a hot day... but of cos it rained like nobodies business later in the evening... luckily i was already back home by then....

i have visited Bagan Lalang almost a decade ago.... and boy has it changed.... it used to be a nice quiet place .... the beach wasnt that great but broad ...and the water was not too nice either.... but it was a great place for a picnic...... there was a restaurant there which was famous for its 'Ikan Bakar' (Grilled Fish) and the sea food wasnt bad either....

So yeah ... now ...almost ten years later.... they are calling it Goldcoast.... and they are building a stretch of water villas on stilts...... there goes the neighbourhood lah.... the place was packed with visitors .... the roads are alot better now but its jammed with cars... maybe it was packed because it was a sunday...... there are alot of new stalls and food courts along the stretch.... but the food really sucked!!! this is according to others lah because my food never came... but somehow i wasnt to hungry even thought i didnt have breakfast either... .... .... sigh!!! it was sad lah... i really hope this place is not ruined further by stupid humans who only know how to leave rubbish wherever they go......

I only noticed that plastic bottle after view this on the screen...sheesh!!

There was something serene but disturbing about watching this kite fly.... i cant seem to pin point it........ but it sure did remained me of someone........ Fi.... this one's for you....

Help carry what???

Imagine what my friends would have first thought when i asked their help to carry my vw engine out of the boot of my Proton Satria..... their first reaction was ... "your what...??!!!"... then the next question was ... "how the hell did you get it in there in the first place?"... and my answer was.... an Indian, an Indonesian and a Bangladeshi (the indian being me ofcos) carried it into the boot of my car.....



Yup... we managed to get my vw beetle engine into the boot of the satria... ofcos with the back seats folded down and you can fit alot of things in there.... but please be warned that overloading your car is dangerous... because your car will handle differently while driving it... not to mention ruining your back absorbers... shorthening its lifespan or even breaking it!! so please ... dont try this yeah...

So... next problem is getting it out of the car...... but with the help of Dono, Alex, Sheev and Gab, ... it was a breeze... sort off... carrying it straight was easy ..... but the witdh of the store room door was too small .... and so we had to turn the engine on its side so that the exhaust pointed up... slowly but surely... we got it into the store room and so as to not damage the floor... we placed it on a stand i made out of 2 x 4 lumber...

Wild on Wheels

Went to the Wild on Wheels car show which was organized by the AMC club.... a really good turn out of cars but not a good turn out of spectators. I got there in the afternoon and found out that many of the participating had left.... even while i was making my way towards all the cars ... a string of beetles and a combi left :(

Grasshopper 5: The Gathering

I dont @$%#^&%(#$ believe this lah... now the chinese grasshoppers are working together with the indian grasshoppers.... gosh!!... i need to buy more bug spray.....

It was a pretty productive week (last week). My company was closed on the 25th of Sept... So I decided to service the Satria myself for half the price even thought i had to buy an oil filter wrench. The best part is i was able to buy the black oil with a better grade then the what is used by the garages. Changing the black oil and oil filter was easy enough but i did have an issue of filling in too much oil.... which was over the max line by about 5mm... got a little messy after that cos i had to go back under the car and drain it again ...slowly... but other then that it turned out ok... i even gave the car a wash.

But before that i had gone to get my beetle's road tax and insurance sorted out... annoyingly the premium had increased and the agent cldnt tell me why... i got a little annoyed after that but i felt better after when i got a good deal on an oil filter and oil filter wrench at a shop right next to the insurance shop. Then when i renewed my road tax i found that its now cheaper by RM20 ringgit... cool...

Had to stop over at work but then after lunch i made my way to a vw workshop in kayu ara which is not too far from my office. To my shock the whole place has been flattened and there is going to be an apartment built there.... Alamak!!! not where am i going to get a 'radio delete plate' for my bug before its painted...... i had heard that if you continue driving through kayu ara you will land up in taman megah or the old lim kok wing building... so i though i will just give it a try since i had the time.......... i found myself near the Projet Petrol Station near Atria..... imagine my surprise and delight when i drove by another VW workshop called APD Auto which is run by an elderly chap named Francis Lai...... he is a pleasant guy who has run the shop for the past 15 years... and guess what? he has the radio delete plate that im looking for ........but he doesnt have the chrome trim that goes with it... no matter..... i will get it anyway.... but he has a few plates which are from beetles and ghias of a few model years.... unfortunately he and I cant seem to different shade which is from which year because the differences are so small... so i will be taking the whole bunch tomorrow to match it with my car in Klang and picking the one that looks best on it...... i cant wait lah...

It was an eventful week i tell you....... It was not all good however because there was an incident at work which really got my heart boiling last friday...... lets just say that there are people in the world who are so naturally rude that they are so brave in being a jerk ...so easily... but cant seem to be brave enough to admit they were wrong and offer an apology... but then again ...why do i have expectation when they are only being their natural chicken shit self......

luckily it was a friday and I had the treasure hunt the next day which im sure u guys/gal read in my last post... was really really fun...... that really helped my demotivated self....

just a footnote: If the only other reason to come in to work other then work, is a funny bald Irish guy.... then one needs to seriously rethink things....

September Babies

By the power of greyskull and the powers that be... i seem to know many people whose birthday falls in September... first up was Dono's Birthday last Thursday... which we threw a surprise birthday party... hmmm more like a gathering... at his place ... he even was still in his office attire... i got the feelling he was not too impressed and actually just wanted to hangout in Waikiki and maybe play some pool...

....ooookkkk... that expression on Dono's face is just down right scary....

The next day after work i got together with a few VW beetle owners at ASTAKA field... one of the guys even drove all the way from Seremban for the meet... some awesome bugs lah ... but i tell you... but i think its easy to impress me cos i can even see a lemon of a vw bug and still be so awed by it... sigh... cant wait to get my bug on the road lah.....

about half pass 11pm i left Astaka Field to go to Waikiki where Rose and a few of our friends were....I stopped at 7-11 and got a few cup cakes before making my way there because Saturday was Rose birthday... so we where counting down to midnight...



...ah waikiki... havent been here in awhile..... its still an Indian joint lah... where the Indians out number the rest... 20 to 1... we were there till it closed at about 1.30am then we headed over to '24hrs' for some nasi lemak... The others went to subang to play pool but rose and i went home... it was i think 4am when i put my head on the pillow... if i remember correctly the last time i slept this late was on my wedding last August...was like a zombie the next day.... sheesh!!..... im too old for this shit...

It was also Sheena's birthday last Tuesday.... Anyway to all September babies whom I know and yet to meet... A very Happy Birthday to all of you...'ll

Rain Rain go away.....

Whats with the weather lah… rain, rain and more rain…. Its July …sorry its August already and its just raining like nobodies business….it rained practically the whole of July……. What’s next?... hot weather for November ah…!!??... I wouldn’t be surprised lah… Anyway rain makes for some dramatic clouds… Adjust your exposure a notch or two lower (Which means -1 or -2) or point your auto focus to the brightest part of the cloud to make the camera underexpose the shot to further accentuate the darker edges of the clouds …

So i try this technique last friday got some interesting pictures but then when i viewed it on the monitor i noticed that the picture was so noisy... (have a look at the picture on the right, look at the trees on the lower part of the photo and you will see lots of dots) and this is a picture with normal exposure.... the pictures with exposure compensated to -1 and -2 are worse.... Then i realised that I had set the ISO rating of 400 hmmmm... i shld have set it to 200. If your camera has 100 or 50 ...go for it...........

Visited my beetle last Saturday, …. work on it is pretty slow…. The old paint is still being removed and some interesting things are being uncovered (accident damage, bad repair jobs, Bondo magic!!!)…. Slow and easy I say… im still wondering if I shld have removed the engine earlier… if I remove it now then I need to find a way to transport it back to my place…but where am I going to keep it…. hmmm I think I will just leave it in and remove it once its back at my place…. Maybe I shld have removed it before sending it to the shop for paint…… but then again….like I said…where the hell am I going to keep it!!!… arrghhhh!! decisions decisions!!!...

Ordered new glasses/ spectacles on Sunday… I have been wearing my old ones for 4 years now… I think… or was it 5 years… no, I have not worn glasses all my life although many people which I have known for a decade or two thought I did… but yah… like that lah…… Anyway Im not far nor near sighted… its just that I have bad astigmatism… and after getting it checked last Sunday I found out that it has increased by about 25 on each eye… so its now 100 on my left and 50 on my right…. I tried a few thick black frames like those nerdy ones… but I cldnt find one that fit me… I always wanted frames like what Malcolm X wore… I think those are cool… but I guess I just have to stick to normal ones… talking about normal frames… its damn hard lah to find normal plain frames.. almost everywhere we went they had all kinds of funky looking ones… and when you find a normal looking one… the side bit that goes over your ears wld have some weird design or colour… even the one I chose had some design on the side… but its very subtle.

There was a bad accident yesterday morning morning at the flyover near Sunway… which caused a really bad jam on the LDP… I moved like 200 meters in 20 minutes… and Im like what’s going on here… then when I finally reach the cause of the jam… all I can say is the accident was between a trailer and a motorbike….. and it ended tragically… my prayers go out to the victim and his family…..

Finally sent for paint......

Meet my uncle Raveendran, he's had a passion for classic bikes and cars all his life..... and has owned many classics in his time. In his stable he has a Norton , a Triumph and a custom made copper bike as seen in the pictures. I dont have to say that he has been riding Norton and Triumph bikes before there were even called classics...keke sorry uncle... hope you dont take that the wrong way...

Anyhow all my life i have seen him restore classic cars and bikes for as a hobby and also for clients. He himself is a Morris Minor fan and has owned and refurbished a few Morris Minors before.. You can see a blue one in front of my beetle in the picture...... which has seen better days....

Its no wonder that he is currently the President of the Classic Bike Association of Malaysia....

You could say he is one of the people that influenced my love for classics too. I really appreciate his help in keeping my car in his place till i had the time and resources to send it for paint. And that day was last Saturday.... i finally got the car towed to the paint shop called Ah Wah in Teluk Pulai, Klang ....

Unfortunately the tow guy was a dud and did not secure the beetle properly.... so when taking a sharp turn into the shop area the rear driver side tyre came out of the clamp.... and the clamp ramped my new floor boards....WTF...%$%%&()...... it was hell trying the get the car or the tow clamps off.... and the rear apron got damaged in the process.... luckily the floor board seems to be ok and still look ok..... &^$##!!&*(^*(%$$...... im getting it flat bedded the next time..... in all that excitement i forgot to take my camera with me... will be going to the shop this weekend to pass a door lock lever cos i didnt realise the passenger door is locked..... pictures coming soon....

Turismo Internazionale and the 56 hour itch ... and counting!

This has got to be the most beautiful car i have ever seen..... The Alfa 159ti (Turismo Internazionale) .. Its a piece of art on wheels. .............Cleanup on aisle six!........

Last tuesday i woke up with a itch... it started on my fingers... then next thing you know my whole body was on fire.... then it started to swell but thank god it wasnt like Will Smith in the movie Hitch... although that would have been funny... I dont know of any know allergies that i have in terms of food but i remember i was bitten once when I was 10 and my whole body swelled up... I didnt see what bit me though... So im guessing something bite this time too...

I have never felt this itchy in my whole life... and i cant remember how it felt during the time i had chickenpox when i was a little kid...... its like my whole body is not fire... Anyway im on medication right now... but i dont see any difference...

Road Tax Disc Replacement

I have noticed many cars which still have their old road tax sticker stuck to their windscreen. Some are half way torn. Some have a collection of these stickers in a row from top to bottom and even around their windscreen like a frame. Well...for what ever reason it may be... i would like to show you how to remove and replace it.

(Use a plastic ruler to start the peel, ...............................................then peel slowly)

(Clean the area with hand soap, wipe with water and let dry, then place the new disc from one corner)

Finally use the plastic ruler to guide the peel straight and smoothly and you're all done..... Its that simple so stop leaving your old road tax on your windscreen already.....

Smooth Ride

For those of you that have taken a ride in my car. You might have noticed that the ride was bumpy, rough and loud (pun not intended). Dont even mention potholes and speed bumps... terrible... just terrible. Then there was this squeaky noise coming from the right rear absorber.

Well check it out! I finally got new tyres and shock absobers ....... Smooth and quiet ride....nice!

The Best Car Theft Prevention System

I was in penang last weekend and noticed a running condition car with the latest Car Theft Prevention System. I would say that it is an ingenious solution... dont you think?

F1 will never be the same

.....without Schumacher. Sao Paulo circuit... the last F1 race for Schummi. This my friends is the greatest F1 driver ever. Eventhougth the stakes where staked as hight as KLCC, he still drove with all his heart and determination.

come on... how many F1 drivers you know would take 4th place after starting at 10th on the grid... then moved up to 4th place only to lose 15 places after getting a flat tire. .... coming back in 19th, he fought his way back to 4th place eventhought he does not have to anymore....

F1 was entertaining with schumi... In china, after his engine blew which cost him his drivers championship... he did not get angry and fire his crew and enginers... he went on and gave each one of them encouragement and his support..... not like some stupit renault driver who barks at his crew... Nevermind that schumi used to bully his rivals with his car... (Flashback of Michael raming his ferrari into Villeneuve's Williams a long time ago)... he is the only one I know who could take a limping Ferrari and hold off an advancing Alanso (this in the opening stages this year). U the man!!!

Breakdowns

Me car broke down (or shld i say I stopped before it cld breakdown) on my way home after work. The temparature needle started rising.... and at the kampung tungku lights... it had reached the red line.... As soon as the lights turned green I drove pass the traffic light, turned the engine off and coasted till the 7eleven and stopped....

the steam was not to bad because I stopped in time.... let the car cool down... called Rose and few minutes later she arrived with lina and a cooler filled with water... keke.... My saviours.... I only had to put in about a liter of water which which means it was not the radiator or the hoses... So I am guessing its the Radiator Fan...

oh well ...i wonder how much this is going to cost ...... money come money go...
